What are Angels?
Once renowned angel teacher, Doreen Virtue, introduced millions to angels. She painted a picture that angels are there to help people get what they want in life – everything from a good parking space to a partner.
Doreen Virtue started the narrative that angels are the bridge between humans and God. This narrative was put in place by the dark to trick us into thinking we are less than, subservient and need to go to a “higher power” in order to be spiritual.
This was designed to block people from accessing their own light, their own guidance and their own ability to be light on the planet.
Unfortunately, there are many angel teachers in the new age community who are following suit. There has been an infiltration and impersonation of the role of angels and their role in our lives.
In this post, I break down the false narrative that has been created about angels. I also discuss how I see angels. More importantly, I aim to empower you to forge your own connection with your higher self and angels if you so choose.
My Background in the Angel Community
I am no stranger to angel teachings in the new age community. My spiritual journey began by following Doreen Virtue in 2011, eventually working 1-on-1 with Doreen’s daughter-in-law Peroshini Naidoo. I devoured content from all the big teachers including Diana Cooper, Charles Virtue, Kyle Gray and Radleigh Valentine.
In 2022, I experienced an awakening to the dark in spirituality . I thought I was working with the angels these teachers had introduced me to and in fact I was working with dark beings that were impersonating angels.
From this experience, I learned this was the dark’s way of stopping me from my mission and it is a tactic that is being used against many lightworkers.
What Angels Are Not
Angels of light aren’t going to swoop in and make promises of dreams coming true. And they aren’t going to help you manifest the perfect life.
They don’t answer to your every whim and help you find the perfect parking space. And they especially don’t give you the perfect parking space or angel numbers as “proof” that they exist.
Archangel Michael isn’t going to hang out with you all day and be your best friend while you watch Netflix. (Peroshini Naidoo actually gave me this guidance from an imposter “Archangel Michael” more than once).
Angels won’t guide you to do something that will harm you or go against your own instincts or knowing. (I give an example on this later in this post.)
They will not enter your field and perform healing work on you or your chakras.
Angels are there to support you but that looks much different than the picture the new age community has painted. This support won’t be the way you think it should look. And often you may not know that angels are supporting you.
How I See Angels
I want to be careful about defining angels because I think it is important for each of us to have our own understanding of them. There are so many false stories out there saying who and what angels are, I don’t want to tell you I know all about them, because I don’t. But here is how I see them now.
I think of angels as beings of light that are assisting us as we return the earth back to its natural state of high frequency. They help to anchor in the light and drive out the dark.
I believe they are here helping humanity. And that they work in tandem with lightworkers that are on earth, supporting us on our mission.
I don’t believe we have to do anything special for angels to assist us. We don’t need to work hard to get their attention. We don’t need to ask for their help. We don’t need to thank them.
They don’t pick and choose which humans they will help. And we don’t need to know they are helping us.
I don’t believe there is a hierarchy of angels. There are different roles and different frequencies that each one holds. But one isn’t considered closer to god/goddess/source than another. One isn’t more important than others. I feel the same is true for all beings of light including humans. We are all just at different stages of our journey.
I believe that just by talking to angels, they hear you. You don’t need to do anything special.
Angels don’t require us to connect with them in order for us to carry out our mission and help the earth.
Angels Walk the Earth
It is possible that you may be someone that carries angelic frequency within you. And this is something the dark doesn’t want you to know or to believe.
This is why it is important to connect with your own light. It is not necessary to go through another being that is perceived as more important than you.

Example of Connecting with an Angel Imposter
Someone recently approached me to ask my advice on some experiences he was having. He said there is an “angel of light” guiding him. And that he’ll have pain in his body and feel himself being taken over. This “angel” is telling him that he should let those beings take over his body and that he is then meant to “heal” them.
This was RED FLAG city to me. True angels of light wouldn’t be taking over his body and he shouldn’t feel pain when interacting with one. An angel also wouldn’t ask someone to heal an entity that is trying to take over his body.
I told him that my focus is now on connecting with my higher self. He responded that it is ok for us to have different beliefs and changed the subject. He wasn’t ready to hear what I had to say. In my experience this “angel of light” was actually blocking him from seeing the truth. But I am hopeful that I sparked something in this man that will assist him in seeing this “angel” for what it really is.
Connecting with Angels
My focus is on connecting with my higher self. And I believe that this connection comes first and foremost before connecting with other beings of light such as angels.
The way angels approach me now is much different than when connecting with imposter angels. The imposters would often be in my space, giving detailed (often micromanaging guidance) and there would be many. (You might notice that “angel teachers” often have many angels coming in to give guidance in meditations or readings. Multiple angels at once is a sign of false light angels in my experience. They come in numbers in order to distract.)
Now when I connect with angels, there is a clear knowing that I am connecting with an angel. It is usually accompanied by a feeling of comfort and I may receive a brief message or see a glimmer of light. I feel grounded in my body.

By having a solid path to ones’ higher self, it forges the way to connect with angels. Do know that angels are completely fine if we don’t actively try to connect with them.
If you take nothing else from what I say here take this – you have the power within you to connect with your own light. You don’t need anyone else to tell you what the spiritual path looks like or to tell you how to live. Sure, there may be teachers and guides both on the planet and off that will come in to assist you with this. But, You can tap into this vast being of light that you are without the dependence of these guides.
The light supports you no matter what.
